Don’t Let Your Air Conditioner Blow Directly on You While Sleeping: It May Increase the Risk of Facial Paralysis
Experts warn that prolonged exposure to cold air may contribute to facial nerve problems in some people.
Air conditioners have become an essential appliance during hot summer days, helping people stay cool and comfortable. However, many people are unaware that allowing cold air to blow directly onto the body for extended periods—especially while sleeping—may increase the risk of certain health problems, including facial paralysis in susceptible individuals.

During hot weather, many people sleep with the air conditioner running throughout the night. Although cool air itself is not the direct cause of facial paralysis, prolonged exposure may become a contributing factor in some cases.
People with weakened immune systems, older adults, or individuals with underlying conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol may have a higher risk because these conditions can affect blood circulation and nerve health. As a result, sudden or prolonged exposure to cold air may increase the likelihood of facial nerve inflammation in vulnerable individuals.
