The victim’s wife, Jane Carey , wanted to remember her husband with truly touching words, which were reported by news.com.au. “ David touched the lives of so many people that everyone deserves to know who he was and how it ended for him. I want to put a face to this tragedy: he wasn’t just killed by a crocodile, we lost a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend, and doctor. We were enjoying a standard day of our holiday and everything changed in the space of 30 seconds. He wasn’t doing anything wrong; in fact, he was doing everything right, and this happened anyway. Things can change so quickly in an instant, even if everything was done right. He saved me ; his final act was not to take me with him,” she said.
“I’m glad I’m still here, because it could have been a million times worse for everyone involved, not just the kids. It’s very comforting to know that there’s nothing I’m frustrated or angry about: he was just walking around the corner on a well-trodden path. I have no regrets, because it’s one of those random accidents that happen and nothing could have been done to prevent it ,” she added.
