One of these is the seat belt lock button : a small piece of plastic with a big function.

🛑 What is the seat belt lock button?
The seat belt latch button (also called the seat belt retainer button ) is a small plastic pin attached directly to the seat belt webbing . Its main function is to keep the metal latch plate , or the part that attaches to the buckle, in the correct position when the seat belt is not in use.
Without this button, the buckle would slide freely along the belt, falling to the floor or getting stuck in unreachable places. This would make fastening the seat belt inconvenient, time-consuming, and frustrating, especially when you’re in a hurry.
🔍 Where is it?
Most vehicles have two stop buttons on each seat belt:

Lower stop button: Located just below the locking plate to prevent it from sliding towards the floor .

Upper stop button (optional): Located above the attachment plate to prevent it from moving too far up the belt towards the shoulder.
Together, these buttons keep the locking plate in the ideal range of motion , ensuring that it is always within reach when you buckle up.
