Daniel smiled faintly.
“You can yell at her when she wakes up.”
“I plan to.”
A nurse appeared.
“Mr. Mercer?”
Daniel spun around.
“Your wife is awake.”
His knees nearly gave out.
“She’s asking for you.”
The nurse looked at me.
“And her sister.”
Grace looked terrible.
Beautiful, but terrible.
Her skin was pale.
Her hair was tangled.
Machines surrounded her.
But when Daniel entered, her mouth curved into a weak smile.
“Babies?”
“Both okay.”
“Me?”
“Still bossy.”
She smiled.
